Interactive PowerPoint Lesson Checklist
For Dr. Pastore's Classes, Bloomsburg University

Your mission is to create an interactive PowerPoint lesson for your students.

Total points for the lesson is 99 points as each category below is worth 3 points.  Your final product should be beta-tested in class by another student using this checklist!  You final product should be put on the web as explained in the directions at: http://teacherworld.com/pponweb.html

Points on Assignments: (A Reminder Copied from the Syllabus)
Each assignment is worth a certain number of points, however, you will not receive ANY points for an incomplete assignment.  In addition, you will not receive ANY points if you do not obtain at least 70% of the allocated points for the assignment.  The rationale for this policy is that an assignment that is partially completed or that is below the expected average of performance is not useful to you or your future students.

CONTENT

Your lesson should be a minimum of 37 slides.
At least 20 slides should  be of a tutorial nature (presenting information about a topic).
At least 12 slides should be testing for content (at least 3 multiple choice questions) and 1 slide after this section notifying the student that they are at the end of the lesson (include return to title slide button here).
The content should be a lesson that could be used in teaching.
The content should be appropriate for your major.
The content should be appropriate for the grade level of the student.
There should be no spelling or grammatical errors.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

Use of sound including one built-in sound and one sound from the Internet.
  Readable text on all slides.
  Use of animation.
All buttons for navigation should be in the same location and not appear to "move."
All slides must be free of technical problems including problems with sounds, links, and animation.

DESIGN and NAVIGATION

The first slide should have your name, the name of the lesson, the subject area, and grade level. This slide should also have a forward button.
The second slide should have an introduction to the lesson. This slide should also have forward and backward buttons.
The third slide should have directions for navigating through the lesson.  The icons should be to the left of the screen and the explanations should be to the right.  This slide should also have forward and backward buttons.
The fourth slide should be your "main menu" for the lesson.  The main menu should consist of Lesson and Quiz buttons.  There should be an explanation for each of these buttons. Note: These may be divided into smaller sections.
Each tutorial slide should have forward, backward, and main menu buttons.
The last slide in each tutorial section should have backward and main menu buttons and a message letting the user know she or he is at the end of the tutorial.
Each multiple choice question slide should have a main menu button in addition to the answer choices.  Each wrong answer should only have a return button to the question slide and each right answer should only have a next button linking to the next question or the the next slide.
The last slide of the program should have have a Return to Title Slide button.  There should be a message letting the user know that she or he should click on the Return to Title Slide button for the next user. DO NOT use the home button to return to the title slide. You should keep your buttons consistent throughout the PowerPoint.
The lesson should be interactive.  The user should be given choices.  This will involve branching in the design of your lesson mode.
Use of appropriate graphics on a majority of slides.
Graphics should reinforce your point, not "clutter" your lesson.
Directions for the lesson mode should be clear. The user should not need your help to navigate or implement the lesson.
The amount of text on each card should be limited.
Users should navigate only by clicking on buttons or links.  Users should NOT be able to advance by clicking anywhere on the screen. To remove this feature, go to ANIMATIONS TAB. Uncheck "Advance slide on mouse click" on the right side of the screen and select "Apply To All."
  Design should be consistent.
Using sound to signify wrong answers could embarrass students.
Feedback should be given for both right and wrong answers.
When using sound, hide the speaker graphic unless it needs to be seen.
Underlining should only be used to signify hyperlinks.
You need to change the color scheme manually so that clicked hyperlinks don't appear as a different color. To do this, click on the DESIGN TAB. Click once on "Colors" in the top right portion of the screen. Select "Create New Color Themes" at the bottom of this drop down menu. "Hyperlink" and "Followed Hyperlink" colors are at the bottom of this selection window.
You should follow the patterns of the flowcharts below.
