PARTS OF A LESSON

Introduction: (Sometimes referred to as "establishing set" or "anticipatory set")

Includes any or all of the following activities...

• review information from a prior lesson

• provide an overview of the day's lesson

• relate past information to future information

• use "motivators" to gain student interest

• ask questions that will examined during the lesson

• use advance organizers

• pose a problem that will be explored during the lesson

• state the goals or objectives of the lesson

• perform a demonstration

• assess the students on information they already know
   

Instructional Delivery:

• deliver the main activities of lesson

• utilize 2 or more teaching techniques (variety)

• provide smooth transitions

Closure:

• summarize important information (goals)

• relate this lesson's information to future information

• give homework assignment
   

Formative Evaluation:

• monitor student progress during the lesson

• this is an "ongoing" process

• ask yourself the question "Is learning taking place?"
